How to Play

The goal of Wordual is to solve word puzzles in different categories before the 60-second timer runs out.

  1. When the game starts, a category is automatically selected for you.
  2. Solve the presented word puzzle by typing your answer in the input field.
  3. Click "Submit" or press Enter to check your answer.
  4. If correct, you'll move to the next category automatically.
  5. If incorrect, you'll lose points but can try again.
  6. You can manually change categories by clicking on them, but this costs points if you haven't completed the current one.
  7. Try to complete all categories before time runs out!

Each game presents five randomly selected categories, with a random puzzle type for each. This ensures a unique experience every time you play, keeping the game fresh and challenging.

Puzzle Types

Wordual features four different types of word puzzles:

  • Scrambled Words: Unscramble the jumbled letters to form a valid word. The hint will help you figure out what word to form. For example, "ELPPA" would unscramble to "APPLE" with a hint like "A common fruit."
  • Missing Letters: Fill in the missing letters to complete the word. The pattern shows some letters while others are represented by blanks. For example, "P _ A _ E _" might be "PLANET" with a hint about astronomy.
  • Word Association: Identify which word doesn't belong in the group. Look for the pattern that connects most of the words. For example, if you see "RED, BLUE, APPLE, GREEN, YELLOW," then "APPLE" is the odd one out since the others are colors.
  • Crossword Clues: Solve the clue to find the answer word, similar to a crossword puzzle. For example, "A place to see stars and planets" would be "OBSERVATORY."

Each category will randomly present one of these puzzle types.

The variety of puzzle types tests different aspects of your vocabulary and word skills, making Wordual both fun and educational.

Scoring System

Points are awarded or deducted based on your actions:

  • Correct Answer: +20 points
  • Incorrect Answer: -5 points
  • Skipping a Category: -10 points (applied once per category)

Your final score is based on how many puzzles you solved correctly minus any penalties.

Your score cannot go below zero, even with penalties.

Try to achieve the perfect score of 100 by correctly answering all five categories without any incorrect answers or skips!

Tips & Strategies

  • Start with categories you're most comfortable with to build up points quickly.
  • If you're stuck on a puzzle, it's sometimes better to skip to another category rather than waste too much time.
  • For scrambled words, try looking for common prefixes or suffixes like "re-", "un-", "-ing", or "-ed".
  • When unscrambling, try different combinations of the first two or three letters to see if you recognize a word pattern.
  • For missing letters puzzles, say the pattern out loud with different sounds for the missing letters to trigger word recognition.
  • In word association puzzles, look for themes like "animals", "colors", or "foods" to identify the odd one out.
  • For crossword clues, think about both direct and indirect meanings - many clues involve wordplay.
  • Pay attention to the hints - they often contain valuable clues about the answer.
  • Practice regularly to improve your word recognition and speed.
  • Challenge yourself to beat your previous score with each new game.
